PRIVACY

Your privacy matters.

What you share in therapy is some of the most personal information there is. This page explains, in plain language, what I collect, why, who can see it, and your rights under Ontario law.

1. Who I am

Jeanne Fries Therapy is the private practice of Jeanne Fries, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) #21881. Under Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA), I am a health information custodian. That means I'm legally responsible for protecting your personal health information. I'm also the contact person for any privacy questions or concerns.

8.This website

This website is hosted by Squarespace. It uses basic cookies to make the site work and anonymous analytics to see how many people visit. It doesn't track you for advertising. Messages sent through the contact form are stored by Squarespace, whose servers may be outside Canada. That's why I ask you to keep health details out of the form. To book, you'll be taken to Jane's secure booking page.

2.What information I collect

Contact and booking details: your name, date of birth, address, email, phone number and emergency contact.

Clinical information: what you share in sessions, your history, intake forms, and my session notes.

Billing information: fees, receipts, payment records and, if you choose, your insurance details.

Website information: messages sent through the contact form, and basic, anonymous visit data.

3. Why I collect it

I collect only what I need to:

  • provide and plan your therapy

  • book appointments and send reminders

  • issue receipts and handle payment

  • meet my legal and professional obligations, including CRPO's record-keeping standards

4. Your consent

By booking and attending sessions, you consent to me collecting and using your information for your care, as described here. You can withdraw or limit your consent at any time by telling me. For example, you can ask me not to share certain information with anyone. Withdrawing consent can't undo anything already shared, and the law sometimes still requires me to keep or disclose information.

5. Who can see your information

I never sell your information. It is seen only by:

Me.

My clinical supervisor. As an RP(Q), I practice under the clinical supervision of Marlee Ruble and Marc Collborne, who is also bound by confidentiality. I share only what's needed for supervision, and [use as little identifying detail as possible / say whether you de-identify].

Jane, the secure Canadian practice-management system I use for booking, records, [online sessions,] payments and receipts. Jane stores information on my behalf and acts as my agent. It does not own or use your information for its own purposes.

Anyone else you ask me to share with, such as your doctor or insurer, with your consent.

7. How your information is stored and protected

  • Your records are kept in Jane, on encrypted, secure servers in Canada (Montreal and Calgary).

  • Jane encrypts information while it's being sent and while it's stored.

  • My account is protected by a strong password and two-step verification.

  • Any paper records are kept in a locked cabinet.

  • Online sessions take place through Jane’s secure web platform and are never recorded without your consent.

  • Payments go through Jane's payment system. I don't see or keep your full card number.

6. When I must share without your consent

The law requires or allows me to share information without your consent in a few situations:

  • if I believe there is a significant risk of serious harm to you or someone else

  • if I suspect a child is being, or is at risk of being, abused or neglected, which must be reported to a children's aid society

  • if a court order, summons or subpoena requires it

  • if CRPO requires it for a regulatory review or complaint

  • if you tell me that another regulated health professional sexually abused you, which I must report. Your name is included only with your written consent.

These are extreme cases; I will always talk to you first.
